Authors Note on Perseverance
My first memory of the word "Perseverance" was in the third grade, when my homeroom teacher awarded me a certificate for "Most Persevering".
At the time, I had no idea what this big word meant. But as I look back on my experiences, perseverance has always been intertwined throughout my life.
When I was in the fifth grade, I successfully constructed my very own igloo by shoveling blocks of snow from the backyard of our home in Akron. It was cold, but how much satisfaction I had when it was completed!
In college, I was a member of Hillsdale College's Cross County Team. My time on the team further instilled these values, which have been a common thread across all facets of my life: practice, determination, and resilience.
Whether it be relocation to New Orleans and Houston, classroom teaching, as a parent, and later as an author, Perseverance has been reflected throughout my life.
My hope is to make this big word a little less intimidating to the next generation. "What is Perseverance?" breaks down the definition of the word, and what it means to set goals for yourself and follow through on them.
